Dracula Intermission Show
By: Kayla Swain, with help from Lydia Pedersen & William Anderson
When the audience enters the commons the Brides and Children enter. The Children skip through the crowd, weaving in and out of the audience members till they reach the back of the commons. The Bride's tale after them, going to the back of the commons in a much more dignified manner. Though they do walk fast worried about and trying to reign in their children. When the Bride’s arrive at the back of the commons the Children are already playing games and making noise. The Bride’s join their Children (at least one Bride to a Child) happy to see they are playing nicely, they even join in on the noise making. All the Children and Brides are having a great time and the noise reaches a crescendo until one child bites the other. Child 1 bites Child 2, Child 2 cries out. Everything stops.
Bride 3: ( pulling the children apart) What are you two doing!?
Child 2: (showing Bride 3 her arm) She bit me mommy.
Bride 2: (taking child 2’s arm) Oh sweet heart! (Bride 2 move’s Child 2 away from Child 1 looking her over in a worried manner)
Bride 3: (bending down and grabbing Child 1’s chin) Now, what did I tell you about biting!
Child 1: (disappointed in herself for making her mother’s angry)No biting family.
Bride 3: (patting Child 1’s cheek, Child 1 flinches back slightly) Good girl, now apologize to your sister, and if you want something you can snack on we’ll get you someone from the asylum. ( she smiles and nods as the child walks toward Bride 2 and Child 2)
Bride 4: That sounds like good idea, the children seem to be getting hungry. ( she looks at Child 3 standing next her, pinching her chin she smiles)Are you hungry my little vampire bat?
Child 3: Yes, Mommy. (she pouts and holds her stomach)
Bride 5: I´m not sure that's such a good idea, wouldn't want them spoiling their dinner.
Bride 6: Yes, Vlad told me he's bringing us someone special for dinner tonight. A strong bloodline he says. Wouldn´t want to spoil that now would we? (she addresses Child 4 who stands inbetween Bride 6 and Bride 5)
Bride 3: Oh, don´t be such a bat in the belfry, (she laughs, Bride 5 and Bride 6 look at her disapprovingly) a little snack won't hurt them, and anyway ( she holds out her hand to Child 1 who comes back over she grabs Child 1´s hand then steps behind her squeezing her shoulders) they know what will happen if they refuse something from daddy. (there is a pause, Child 1 winces and the other Children shrink back slightly) Don’t you? (her voice more sinister, addressing all the Children)
All The Children: Yes, Mommy.
Bride 3: (Demeanor and voice changing back to their motherly like tone, she smiles loosening her hold on Child 1 shoulders) Good! (She walks past Bride 4, Bride 5, and Bride 6 , pinching Child 4’s check and ruffling Child 3’s hair ) now let’s get you little ones something to eat. ( She motions to Bride 7 and Bride 8 to bring the snack in)
Bride 7 and Bride 8 leave and return with one of the Inmates who is gnawing on herself. She seems completely unaware that she has been taken away from the asylum and is now in the grasp of two vampires, about to drained by their offspring. Bride 7 and Bride 8 drop the Inmate at Bride 3’s feet and step back. Bride 3 looks the Inmate over as if she was something she was purchasing for her children. Making sure there is no damages to the product which would cause her offspring harm. The Children look at the Inmate with a deep hunger in their eyes, wild beast waiting for the right moment to pounce. The Children whine, fidget, and lick their lips waiting for Bride 3 to finish her inspection. When Bride 3 satisfied with her sister's choice she smiles and takes a large step away from her children's impending victim.
Bride 3: Alright, loves eat up!
The Children do not need to be told twice they are on the Inmate in seconds biting and draining her of her blood. It is at this moment she realizes it is not herself that is causing her pain. She screams and attempts to get the Children off of her. The Brides have gathered together lovingly watching their children feed.
Bride 1: Awww! Aren't they just adorable when they feed.
Bride 2: I know it seems like just yesterday we were turning them, (her lip starts to tremble and tears well up in her eyes) and now…. (she trails off and begins to sob Bride 7 and Bride 8 try to comfort her)
Bride 7: It’ ll be alright sis.
Bride 8: They’ll always be our little demons.
The Inmate almost gets away but is pulled back into the center of the huttel at the last second by the Children.
Inmate : HELP!!!!!!
The Children giggle at their prays feeble attempts to escape and call for help. Bride 2’s sobs turn into sniffles. Bride 1 offers her a handkerchief which Bride 2 proceeds to blow her nose into and wipe her eyes with. At this point the Inmate has stopped struggling and her screams have been silenced. The Children get up and move away from the Inmate who now lays on the floor motionless, pale, and cold. The Children heavily walk back to their mothers, wiping their mouths, rubbing their eyes, and burping.
Bride 1: Finish my little blood sucker? (she coos at Child 6)
Child 6: Umhmm Mommy. (she mumbles rubbing her eyes and yawning)
Bride 5: I think it’s time for a nap. (her and Bride 6 are attempting to keep Child 4 standing)
Some Children are leaning on their mothers others have simply given up standing and have crumbled at their mother's feet rubbing their eyes trying to stay awake.
Bride 4: I think that’s a wonderful idea. (Child 3 is resting on her heavily she looks like she might fall over if she cannot get the child off of her)
All Children: But we’re not tired! (they all yawn)
Bride 8: I beg to differ. (she laughs from where she kneels next to Child 7 who is falling in and out of consciousness in her lap)
Bride 6: (she looks at Bride 3) Why don’t you sing them one of your lullabies Ilona, (Bride 3 turns to Bride 6 at the mention of her name) They always seem to work.
Bride 7: Quite. Even when their like this. (she motions to Child 5 who is kneeling beside her leaning on her leg but refusing to give into the inviting pull of sleep)
Bride 3: (looking around at her sister and her other children before looking down at Child 1 who leaning against her heavily, she smiles lovingly at her and smooths out the girl's hair, she sighs) Alright.
All the Brides sit down on the ground, maneuvering their respective Children to lay down their heads in their laps. Bride 3 begins to sing.
Lullaby and goodnight, with deadly bedlight
With blood o’er spread is little bats wee coffin
Lay thee down now and rest, may thy
Slumber be unholy
Lay thee down now and rest, may thy
Slumber be unholy
